    二手~

I’ve just come back from the Green Apple, San Francisco’s well-known bookstore. They handle both new and used books. I bought 5 used books on theater arts. I can’t wait to read them and impress my teacher. As I was walking back, I thought that though I do not “like” theater (the subject), but I have respect for its comprehensive content, which basically includes all forms of expression. The Green Apple had limited amounts of criticism and production of theater, but they stored plenty playwrights. I consciously seized the ones that contained acting theory and tips on settings. 5 used books, $48~~~ Joy~~
There was also Lao She’s Rickshaw Boy for sale, $2.
A guy was buying bundles of books by their weight. My mom saw the book Amelia recommended me yesterday—The Secret Life of Bees—and asked the man how much it was. He just said, “Take it”, and we were still wondering about the price. When we asked the cashier, she told us casually that the man already bought it so he gave it to us for free. There were also bins at the doors, giving books out for free. I took A Russian History Outline, my mom took an Amy Tan book.

Albert Camus’ transcripted notebook was a thrill. His actual notes, seemingly unedited, were in English. I loved his comments. But the book was $27.95.
I gaped at the Beatles recorder’s book on Beatles called Here There and Everywhere, thinking of buying it for Dufake. There was also Chuck’s new book, Snuff. But that was a new book, so I didn't buy it.
I have refrained myself from the temptations of the cheap books--some I know I will never read again once I bring them back home. The price of the book sometimes have a mental negative effect to reading it.

All in all, I loved that bookstore.

We set off for the museum after an abundant breakfast. On the way, there was a rose garden with many different kinds of roses. We lingered around for a bit. There were all kinds of people settling around the congenial atmosphere. I was mostly occupied on taking pictures rather than enjoying the flowers themselves. I hid my camera once I saw another Asian girl taking pictures…
Then, we went into the museum, which had an exhibition of Chihuly. More pictures later.
After that was the bookstore. then I chatted with Dufake. I miss him more than ever with his voice alluring me.

  • Today my mom and I drove to Claremont. We struggled up at six thirty and ate scrambled eggs. We took their white car and drove the highway for 1 hour and 10 minutes, just as long as the map estimated. Cali drivers are indeed crazier than average Americans… I looked at every driver at my right. Usually the Latino truck drivers always notice my attention and glance back with curiosity. There were lots of trucks in the morning but not in the afternoon. There was abundant advertisement on cars and billboards. I also saw a helicopter crossing the sky, intersecting with my view plane.

We took some time finding Claremont McKenna once we got to Claremont. But we made it. The info session was lead by a milk chocolate easy-going man. He had SAT vocab all over the place of his speech. His body shape was the apotheosis of 牙签穿枣…… Their teaching style is similar to the IB teaching style. The Claremont College system was adapted from the Cambridge system. I like it. And it’s the richest college that’s younger than 100 years old, it meets all financial needs. That’s because 1/8 of the alumnus are among the highest post of any organizations. Sounds pretty creepy. The speech man had a humorous of emphasis on the free-food opportunities provided by CMC. There were 4 talks every week made by famous, prominent people provided for CMC students .Such as Rushdie, Bono and Bill Clinton (don’t recognize the other ones they mentioned). I NEED TO GO TO CMC!!!!!!!!!!!

The speech man talked for 1 hour with high speed and no difficulty. The speed could be considered as filter that: if u can’t understand then don’t come…
He also made an interesting comment, “Don’t show me what you want to be. Because when your school counselors tell you to be ‘unique’, you’re all gonna be ‘unique’ the exact same way!”

We then took a tour around the school, with another few kids and parents. The tour guide was an low-fi Asian kid. I think rarely are prep-college kids enthusiastic enough to come on their own… Parents’ pressure is integral.

Not only are the courses taken by the different college students (among the five), the campus is shared between the colleges as well. It takes a ten minute walk from one end to the other. The trees are very Californian, with their easy-to-come-off bark and height.

Pitzer has desert plants around the campus, because those plants fits with the environment given, so the college wouldn’t need unnecessary water sprinkled. They also had a community garden that had vegetables planted by the students. Anybody can take fruits from the garden and anybody can help out. They also add their combustion for the success of husbandry. The principle is to take what they needed. Just like free printing in Claremont McKenna, as long as you don’t abuse the trust, everyone would be benefited. Also something interesting about Pitzer is that, since founded in the 60s, it comprises a hippie school spirit. Though the tour guide said its way more modern than what it was in the 20th century (“I wouldn’t tie myself to the tree if it was gonna be cut down.”), signs of hippieness are obvious on the campus, such as the wall paintings.

    学生娱乐的地方……

There were also many signs on the dorms saying “I support queer rights.” There was only one other student on the Pitzer tour with his mom. He was another react-to-nothing person. His Tshirt message was DEEP, “Being a mime means never having to say ‘I’m sorry’.”
    我觉得,英文有些东西翻译过来为什么就没意思了,因为中文有些字眼就扼杀了笑话本身的笑点。『作为一名哑剧表演者意味着你永远不必道歉』。可能“小丑”比较好。

The tour guide showed us his dorm, which had a Dutch door (really cool!!). He had a Killers poster inside as well, hanging contiguously with his abstract paintings. I did not pay much attention to this tour since I was much more inclined to get into CMC. Yes, I know, I’m so reliant on prejudice. Whatever…

  • Foreword

The following is a diary entry in English. Gee, this extremely obvious statement wants me to play the role as a significantly smart/different/quirky-out-of-style person. But sadly, I’m just trying to explain why, since I haven’t wrote diary English since I was in third grade. Readers might find that my writing level is similar to the kind in Chinese, even though the tone is dramatically different—it has no drama (as opposed to me in Chinese)!! Hahahaha that was poor ironic. Yeah, I will only foreword this once: (not only because “foreword” makes me think of “FORESKIN”…*cough*) the following is a diary entry……in the purpose of improving English. Yeah. I have trouble looking back at the 10-line-long bullshit while comparing it to the short explanation that followed. Guess it’s because I doubt anybody beside the people who know how crazy I am can understand this, so my writing is FREE!! Just like when Jaret came to Beijing and BSed a lot too, presuming people don’t understand   0_0. k, end of foreword, goodnight.

    其实之前主要推动力就是看到村上春树的小说,觉得自己也可以写得出来嘛!!然后大受启发。

    村上小盆友的历年表是很曲折的。

     May 17th, 2008

I woke up and used the computer to load some songs, which—as usual—ended up as me focusing on something else. After 30 minutes of blogging, I finally got up to prepare for leaving. While pampering my face in front of the mirror with Johnson-Johnson, I combed my hair into a ponytail.

I had three heavy books, one bottle of low-concentrated apple juice and a tube of chips secured in an “I’m not a plastic bag” bag. 448 to Shangdi Subway station, and smoothly to my school, taking off the hair band on the way.

The rain started to fall. The wet feel was brought to my senses accompanied with the songs I knew by heart. When I got to school, I was half worried and half cynical about the carnival: though Mr. C was annoyingly stressing everyone before hand, he did put much effort. Chris and Rob were at the cross road and said hi. I went into the school’s lobby, starting to read my drama book. Mr. C then appointed some 7th graders and me to move the Trash and Treasure items to the Language Center. They complained since they do not get CAS recorded. There were all kinds of used trash/treasure on the 2nd floor hallway: dolls, baskets, miniature utensils etc. During the second relay to carry the stuff, I saw this:

My first reaction was 朴智星, cuz Man C was also red - -|||.

9:42  After several trips of moving and couple dialogues of translating, I finally got my table for raffle tickets. The grand prize is two round-trip tickets to Malaysia, 6 days and 5 nights. Last year one raffle ticket only cost 15 RMB, non-limited. Mr. H himself bought up to 50 tickets, won the prize, and sold the trip. This year the tickets became 100RMB each and limited to 2/person.... obviously Mr. C never aced his economics test... evidently, only about 45 tickets were sold.

    This was my table:

It had the money box, the coupons for games (5RMB/coupon), and the raffle ticktes. Later on a tent was over the two cafeteria tables. The chips are mineThe little M&M bear is the game of guessing how many M&Ms there were. The closest guess wins the bear and the M&Ms.... Dufake and I guessed twice, 600 and 480.

ka wa iiiiiiiiiii...... hope we win!!!

    小屁股!
oh yeah, dufake came at 11:40. He commented on the background songs I never heard: “These songs are so 60s!!! it’s like playing revolutionary songs in Chinese high schools!!” lol ><!!We both watched the Blackened performance; "I see that you're the kind that can get hyped by any music........ i don't mean it as a diss!! I get hyped easily too!!!"He also attempted to steal the guitar of the nerdy Korean kid... "u ppl are soooo rich..."

the wet track and the wet bouncey castle.... “敢不敢去跳……”“不敢。我就是怕戳出洞。。丢人从来没怕过”

    chris
Dufake didn't want to throw sponges at females, so I led him to the wateer-covered sexy buff Chris. The game was to throw water balloons at him, 5 kuai 3 throws. The water was quite warm, Chris never ducked. Still, dufake only nailed one.
The raffle draw was at 1 o'clock; ironically, the headmaster won the prize...
After lunch, I came back and helped to move some chairs. Dufake and I moved a table together.
"STOP!! i need to rest..." "and have sex..." "haha, i could totally imagine that happening" "same here" "and all the ppl would have no reaction about it" "yeah!"
"stole" a can of Coke, found out merrily that the design of the can was one that I didnt have. They are getting prettier each day ><!!!
we left and watched a skateboarding contest for 2 hours. the kid practicing alone yesterday was there as well, along with a foreigner that sucked.

    “我觉得他们都比我小五岁以上……”
Though the techniques were pretty basic, we were quite amused. We even stared at the people long enough to be able to recognize them on the street. I love it when that happens, especially young males. ^_^

     highway to hell - ACDC

we even procastinated lunch for 20 minutes just to watch this performance of Kyu and Na. Other than Tears from Heaven, they sang Hey There Delilah and wake me up when sept. ends. Kyu said "White Plain Ts".... He sang pretty well.
At the end, Chris asked "what about the other band members?" Kyu:"FIRED!" 被带到脑残的小熊一只。澄清一下,他终于没有用中指。
    ~The End~
